Overview
Ruskin’s Tree Consultancy approached us to provide a robust and visually appealing solution for a boundary fence that had been damaged. Due to planning conditions, the replacement fence needed to exceed standard height requirements while still meeting structural, safety and aesthetic expectations. Newtimber proposed the installation of an acoustic fencing system—an option that not only met the height criteria but also offered additional benefits such as wind-load resistance and noise reduction.
Challenges
Several factors made this project particularly complex:
Planning Restrictions: The fence had to be higher than usual, requiring a solution that complied with regulations without compromising stability.
Public Footpath: The work area sat directly over a public footpath, demanding careful coordination, safety measures and minimal disruption to pedestrians.
Ground Conditions: Excavation proved difficult as the team encountered remnants of an old boat slipway beneath the surface, making the digging of post holes far more intricate than anticipated.
Site Constraints: Limited access and the proximity of residential properties required precise planning and execution to avoid disturbance.
